andBeyond - Phinda Mountain Lodge - Phinda Private Game Reserve, South Africa
We set out to give it a contemporary Zulu interior by artfully arranging modern pieces of furniture that use the traditional craft.
THE BRIEF
andBeyond Phinda Mountain is the biggest lodge on Phinda Private Game Reserve. It consists of 25 suites and an extensive guest area that has incredible views over the Lebombo hills. In 2005, Fox Browne Creative was tasked with updating the look and feel of the lodge focussing on the bar and bedrooms. Our brief was to give the lodge a strong, rich identity reflecting its status as a premier lodge in Kwazulu Natal.
THE INSPIRATION
Our inspiration came from its hilltop location and incredible views. The natural materials used, thatch, screed, stone and marble, provide a solid backdrop for Zulu artefacts and layered textiles set out to give it a contemporary Zulu interior by artfully arranging modern pieces of furniture that use the traditional craft.
THE RESULT
The result is well-appointed spaces with a strong and earthy personality showcasing the best of Zulu craft.
We are currently in the process of redeveloping this lodge for reopening in June 2019.
