Taj Safaris - Mahua Koti – Bandhavgarh National Park

As this was the first luxury, safari lodge in the Indian jungle in a family of four, we had to strike out with a very strong look and palette.

THE BRIEF

The design challenge on this lodge was integrating the existing mid-century style guest areas into the rural village style of the kothi’s. As this was the first luxury, safari lodge in the Indian jungle in in a family of four, we had to strike out with a very strong look and palette.

THE INSPIRATION

The design narrative for Mahua Kothi has its roots in a traditional Madhya Pradesh village. The bucolic, slow lifestyle is what we wanted to capture when we did the camp layout. We relied heavily on the traditional mud plastered walls and raw textures. The village layout worked best on this site as it nestles in a teak forest. The colour palette was inspired by saffron and marigolds.

THE RESULT

Twelve standalone luxury cottages that blend into a 45-acre private forest on the periphery of the national park.
