By updating the colour scheme, we were able to bring new life to the space at the same time as acknowledging its heritage.
THE BRIEF
In 2005, we were tasked with reinvigorating Kirkman’s Kamp without infringing on its masculine, hunter personality. On a minimal budget, we had to restyle and upcycle all existing furniture. Our task was upgrading and revamping 18 bedrooms as well as Harry Kirkman’s original homestead which is used as the central guest area.
THE INSPIRATION
Kirkman’s homestead, of the typical Eastern Transvaal style, was the inspiration. By updating the colour scheme, we were able to bring new life to the space at the same time as acknowledging its heritage.
THE RESULT
The result is a charming, soulful and authentic space that offers guests a genuinely homely experience.
