THE BRIEF
Klein’s Camp has long been a beloved &Beyond property, set in a remote corner of the game-rich Serengeti National Park, perched on the edge of the Kuka Hills. The property is cherished for its simple, unfussy personality and old-fashioned safari luxury. We were briefed to retain this essential essence of vintage safari style while also embellishing it with signature Maasai elements in the interiors.
THE INSPIRATION
The inspiration comes from the simplicity of the well-positioned stone rondavels and the raw beauty of locally quarried stone, combined with the rich Maasai culture of the region. In the bar area and sitting room—boasting one of the finest views in Africa—we created a signature piece of furniture: a back-to-back circular sofa, offering guests a view of the dramatic landscape by day and the grand central fireplace by night. We used the ubiquitous Maasai gourd as a bold statement on the circular bar, suspending hundreds of them in a gentle arc as a light feature. In the guest suites, we introduced safari-inspired leather furniture and new soft furnishings while preserving the rooms’ old-school safari magic, with their wooden floors and stone walls.
THE RESULT
The result is a harmonious blend of Maasai influences and organic architecture, creating an environment that feels both restful and refined.
