We were inspired by rustic river cabins along with the whole recycling movement that was in play at the time.
THE BRIEF
In 2006, we had the opportunity to open this 9 room lodge on a greenfield site, as the sister lodge to andBeyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Lodge.
We were tasked to come up with an entirely different personality for this lodge. Xaranna, the lodge downstream, has a distinctly feminine personality featuring pale lily pad green and pinks. Xudum had to be masculine and musky featuring dark timber, layered black textiles and raw matte textures.
THE INSPIRATION
We were inspired by rustic river cabins along with the whole recycling movement that was in play at the time. In rural Botswana, many of the village huts are constructed using mud and old beer cans. The humble beer can was integrated into many of the furniture pieces.
THE RESULT
The result is a playful and artful mix of muted tones, tactile surfaces, bespoke, upcycled furnishings and curated objet d’art.
