andBeyond - Sossusvlei Lodge - Namibrand Nature Reserve, Namibia
Architecturally, the lodge is contextually relevant, and the interiors reflect a chic desert inspired minimalism with careful attention paid to fundamental guest comfort.
THE BRIEF
Fox Browne Creative, in partnership with architect Jack Alexander, has been engaged to extensively refurbish the existing lodge, using the same footprint to create a product that launches andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge into a new tier in Namibia thereby competing comfortably with the best desert destinations in the world.
THE INSPIRATION
Although avant-garde in its own way and built in the ’90s, the lodge had a hefty footprint and was constructed without the consciousness and understanding of the natural environment that we have today. While we sought to transform and completely reinvigorate the guest experience through the addition of many unique and luxurious features, we simultaneously sought to reduce the human impact on the landscape.
The colours selected are neutral reflecting the colours of the rocks and shale rather than that of the more obvious orange dunes. The textures chosen are desert inspired. Decorative details feature ostrich egg and ostrich leather detailing. Bold black and white desert imagery play to the “less is more” design approach that we chose.
THE RESULT
Architecturally, the lodge is contextually relevant, and the interiors reflect a chic, desert-inspired minimalism with careful attention paid to fundamental guest comfort. We believe that the reimagined desert lodge will wholly own the luxury space in Namibia with a bold and robust identity.
