THE BRIEF

Located on the eastern border of the Etosha National Park in Namibia, Onguma Camp Kala suffered a devastating fire in 2020, and therefore needed  to be rebuilt in this  iconic location overlooking  one of the most productive natural springs in the Etosha region

In collaboration with Nicholas Plewman Architects, we were tasked to rebuild  four guest suites, a main guest area, gym and spa which are all built on gum pole stilts including a re-imagining for the entire guest journey.

THE INSPIRATION

This region is home to the traditional Haikum bushmen who have a culture of a nomadic hunter-gatherer people that goes back far into human history. This, along with some of the endangered black rhino were major informants for the re-design. THE RESULT

The result is a bespoke and contemporary take on typical Namibian safari style giving the guest an unmistakable sense of being at Onguma. We have taken everyday objects and made them into functional art unique to Camp Kala delighting and surprising at every turn.
