Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the Ngala Private Game Reserve and the surrounding Timbavati Riverbed, the redesign embraces both Shangaan culture and the camp's mid-century safari roots.
THE BRIEF
Fox Browne Creative was engaged to reimagine &Beyond’s Ngala Tented Camp while preserving its iconic tented charm. In partnership with Jack Alexander, we set out to enhance the camp’s authentic safari experience, ensuring a seamless blend of contemporary design and the rustic appeal of traditional tented accommodation.
THE INSPIRATION
Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the Ngala Private Game Reserve and the surrounding Timbavati Riverbed, the redesign embraces both Shangaan culture and the camp's mid-century safari roots. Interiors feature warm terracotta and sandy tones, with natural textures and locally sourced materials. Embroidered details, traditional fabrics, and striking stained glass evoke the region’s heritage, while spacious salas and private outdoor living areas invite guests to immerse themselves in nature.
THE RESULT
The result is a modern safari retreat that combines the intimacy of tented accommodation with luxury and comfort. Guest tents were completely refurbished with new features like outdoor baths, extended verandas, and indoor/outdoor showers. The main guest areas were expanded to include seasonal dining spaces, a new spa treatment room, and a river-view gym. The camp’s sustainable design incorporates elevated structures and reclaimed materials to preserve the environment, while carefully selected modern amenities ensure an unforgettable wilderness experience.
