DAUNARA SAFARI CAMP - OKAVANGO DELTA, BOTSWANA

The design had to feel like a home, reflect a sense of place and harmonize with nature in a sophisticated, understated and luxurious way.

THE BRIEF

Our brief was to create an exclusive-use camp where memorable moments could be shared with family and friends in the heart of Botswana's wilderness. The design had to feel like a home, reflect a sense of place, and harmonize with nature in a sophisticated, understated, and luxurious way. Fox Browne Creative was responsible for strategic direction, architectural design (in partnership with Jack Alexander), and hospitality operations.

THE INSPIRATION

The luxurious, five-room tented camp includes an intimate indoor sitting room, a family-friendly kitchen, a fully stocked bar, and a standalone wine cellar. Outdoor areas feature shaded verandas, a sunken firepit, a salt-chlorinated lap pool, and a walkway extending onto the water for romantic dinners and mokoro excursions.

The architecture draws its inspiration from the lagoon and natural vegetation, positioning each tent under the shade of the largest trees to frame views of the elegant tent canopies against the tree line. The design emphasizes bespoke luxury inside and out, with a focus on integrating views of the lagoon into every space. The camp layout, featuring a raised wooden walkway that winds through the trees, echoes the Delta’s natural waterways, ensuring a seamless connection to the environment.

The interiors reference Botswana botanicals, a nature-inspired color palette, Botswana basketware, and bespoke Delta-lily patterned rugs. Detailing throughout, from brass-studded timber panels to intricate tent hardware, blends rustic authenticity with luxurious touches.

THE RESULT

The result is elegant, contemporary, and sophisticated. Distinctly African in its roots with a tailored and bespoke feel both inside and out, allowing the expansive views of the lagoon and the Botswana Wilderness to take precedence whilst setting a new standard for exclusive-use luxury in Africa's iconic landscapes.
